Proposal To put in a Waterfurnace Geothermal heatpump and hook it to the city water main, bypass the water back to the city main extracting the heat required. Watch the Real Audio Video on Geothermal Need Real Audio get it here![]() Due to the nature of the lot sizes in the community it is not always possible or feasible to put in a conventional ground loop. If you examine what a ground loop does and how a conventional ground loop works you will find that the city water main is a natural Geothermal ground loop. Using the idea that the city water main is a ground loop and a perfect source for heat collection, it is found that the city water main is a considerable source of energy that is presently untapped and being wasted. This type of connection has been used in many locations
IE/ City of Winner, South Dakota City of Walla Walla, Washington To name a few. On commercial farms and dairies similar types of systems have been used for 30 plus years to process milk. Also in the processing of wines, juices, sugar, food products , and on central heating systems off domestic water. Some of these types of systems are located right here in Calgary and area. Design The ground source unit (a waterfurnace geothermal heatpump) will collect the heat from the propylene glycol water mixture (food grade). The propylene glycol is collecting its heat from the 40-deg F city water main through a single wall heat exchanger. The city water will pass through the heat exchanger and through a pump to maintain its head pressure then back to the city water main. Nothing is being added to or taken from the water except aprox. 4 deg. F. Should the temperature of the entering water drop to 34 Deg. F the heat exchanger will be bypassed and the interior loop temperature will be maintained using a hot water tank. The pressure of the water on the city water main side of the heat exchanger will be higher than the pressure on the (food grade) propylene glycol side. Thus should some unforeseen accident happen and the heat exchanger is damaged it will be impossible for the (food grade) propylene glycol or any thing to enter the water supply. The heat exchanger is single wall construction and along with the pump they are designed for domestic water and will not add anything to the water. |
